Our Distinctives

  • Christian

There are many mental health providers and approaches, each with their unique strengths and weaknesses. Well Christian Care is committed to being distinctly Christian. That means all of our care is motivated by Christ’s love. It also means that all of our care is offered with a Christian worldview and understanding of life’s problems and how to navigate them.

  • Compassionate

The Bible calls Jesus a “wonderful counselor” and reveals Him as compassionate with those struggling with sin and burdened by suffering. Harsh counsel can cause harm to those hurting. That is why Well Christian Care is committed to Christ’s compassion. Compassion includes empathy but also moves toward an active addressing of sin and comfort for struggles.

  • Competent

When someone reaches out for help, they expect and hope for someone capable of helping. That is why we are well-trained and committed to continuing education. While not state-licensed, all of our counselors are certified Biblical or Christian Counselors, and many have received Master’s-Level education and counseling training. We are also committed to training others.

  • Comprehensive

Christian Counseling has a reputation for being reductionistic. But Jesus didn’t solely address spiritual issues. He treated people holistically, addressing physical, mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual needs alike with the understanding that people are embodied souls. Our care follows Christ’s example. We aim to consider the whole person in our approach.

Our Services

  • Care Sessions

Care Sessions are conversations between clients and trained caregivers. They generally resemble traditional counseling sessions, but the structure is flexible. Care Sessions are available for individuals, couples, and groups.

  • Conferences

Conferences are opportunities for focused learning, connections, and encouragement for your organization’s staff, teams, and members alike. We occasionally host our own conferences, and you can also request us to speak at your own.

  • Courses

Courses are designed to help participants grow in confidence and skill to offer compassionate, competent Christian care to those in need. Courses include teaching, workbooks, rich content, and opportunities to connect with other participants.

Care That Is For You

  • Affordable

We aim to make care accessible by keeping it as affordable as possible.

  • Biblical

We ground our care in the Bible, which is God’s way of revealing the way to true flourishing.

FAQs

  • We answer this question thoroughly on the Our Approach page.

  • We answer this question on our Choosing a Counselor page. We also suggest reading through Our Approach to understand how you might receive care from us..

  • Each of our caregivers has Christian commitments, and while we do not poselytize, our approach to care is grounded in a Christian worldview. That said, we wholeheartedly and genuinely welcome non-Christians to pursue care with us. We believe God has much to say to you in the struggles you experience and we are here to help.

  • The length of counseling can vary greatly, depending on the problems being addressed. Some of the most critical factors in effective counseling are coming with a positive attitude, setting concrete goals with your caregiver, and working to stay focused on those goals.

  • Our fee for individual counseling starts at $70.00 per hour, per person.

Our fee for couples counseling starts at $90.00 per hour, per couple.

Our fee for group counseling starts at $35.00 per hour, per person. Groups are limited to ten people.

  • At this time, Well Christian Care does not work with third-party insurers nor provide the diagnostic codes needed for reimbursement. Upon request, we will provide a receipt for clients to submit to their insurance on their own after counseling is complete.

All counseling charges are due prior to each appointment.

  • Well Christian Care offers appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Friday appointments are offered to existing clients only at the discretion of our individual caregivers and their schedule. We are closed Saturday through Monday.

  • Particular caregivers may be requested, but assignment to them is based on both availability and fit for the presenting counseling issue.

  • People come to Well Christian Care with many different struggles. Examples of issues that we regularly counsel include marriage and family issues, anxiety, depression, abuse, eating disorders, pornography, and addictions.

  • Yes! Some, though not all, of our caregivers have received clinically proven trauma-informed care training from a Christian perspective.

  • We do not provide diagnosis. While we are clinically-informed counselors, we do not hold the state licensure credentials to provide a diagnosis. We are happy to give you referrals for this service.

  • We refer to our team as caregivers because that is how we view ourselves. While we have formal counseling training, we are more than professional counselors simply offering solutions to problems. We are people joining strugglers on their journey to wholeness and wellness. Further, "counseling" in our psychologized times carries the connotation of addressing primarily mental health. Our approach is holistic, aiming to care for the whole person — physically, mentally, emotionally, relationally, and spiritually. We feel "caregiver" more accurately represents our intention and hope for those who connect with us.

  • Licensure has many benefits. Among them, licensure grants legitimacy and increases the likelihood of competency, for counselors must make a significant investment to meet certain standards of training. Contrary to popular belief, American psychological and psychiatric associations have recognized religion and spirituality as having legitimate use in counseling contexts. Licensed counselors can typically promote certain Christian practices and principles in their counseling work.

However, licensure often comes with significant legal limitations to providing distinctly Christian care. For example, some licensure requirements today prohibit counselors from counseling people biblically concerning marital fidelity, abortion, sexuality, or transgender identity and behavior. There are other examples as well on matters of confidentiality and reporting. For example, a licensed counselor is legally prohibited from reporting marital infidelity to a person's spouse or their church leaders.

This is where the problem presents for Well Christian Care. Our goal is to provide holistic care grounded in a Christian worldview on counseling issues and presenting problems. To maintain compliance with state licensure requirements could mean compromising convictions that shape the worldview we aim to offer care from. While that is not a certainty, we would rather steer clear of this potential conflict altogether.

Separation of Church and State laws allow for those operating under the auspices of a recognized, organized church to provide counsel without state licensure, provided 1) it is clear the counsel being offered is religious in nature and 2) that the counselors do not identify as licensed. To adhere to these laws, Well Christian Care is a church-based counseling center operated as a ministry of The Well Church. Counselors at Well Christian Care aim to offer distinctly Christian care. They are well-trained in theology and counseling - and some are trained in additional fields like psychology or homeopathy - but none identify as state-licensed or practice under state licensure. We take it a step further by referring to our team as caregivers instead of counselors to further make the distinction.

  • Our caregivers have formal training in both the Bible and in counseling. Some, though not all, have additional training in fields like psychology, homeopathy, and crisis care. All of our caregivers are committed to continuing education.

  • Well Christian Care is very sensitive to the issue of confidentiality. We typically surpass HIPAA requirements in an effort to honor God and our counselees regarding confidentiality. The Bible repeatedly warns against gossip and indicates that trustworthy persons keep confidences. To release counseling information without a counselee's consent would violate biblical standards as well as commonly accepted codes of counseling ethics.

However, situations in which a counselee or another person is in imminent danger of physical or sexual abuse may require us to share that information with relevant persons.

When appropriate, Well Christian Care may also keep a counselee's pastor, leader, or other church person informed about the counseling process.

  • Our mission is to offer comfort, hope, and help specifically to those struggling on the Treasure Coast. We also believe that care is best provided in the context of a face-to-face counseling relationship. Therefore, we typically do not offer virtual counseling. Exceptions are made for unique circumstances at the discretion of Well Christian Care.

We do offer virtual care sessions for global missionaries. Learn more here.
